Jessica grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her first teacher was her aunt, Gina Allan, a well-known Western Canadian jumping and dressage trainer. Starting out in riding school at age 9, Jessica slowly worked her way up the ranks through working student positions and catch riding. She had success on the “A” and “B” hunter/jumper circuits in British Columbia as a junior and young amateur, and was lucky enough to compete at classic venues like Thunderbird and Spruce Meadows. In her early 20s, working for Desiree Johnson at a hunter/jumper sales barn in the heart of German horse country, she learned invaluable information about horse and stable management, sales, and training. From there Jessica moved to California and the prominent Northern Californian hunter/jumper training barn Horizons East Show Stables, where she worked as assistant trainer to Barbara EnDean, participated in training both horse and rider and was the barn’s show rider. She was a key component in bringing along numerous young horses that have moved on to very successful careers in the hunters and jumpers. With multiple wins and championships in the hunter and jumper divisions throughout California and Oregon, Jessica has made many connections throughout the industry, most recently working for and receiving training from prominent West Coast hunter/jumper coach, young horse trainer, and breeding expert Sue Lightner.

Jessica is beyond passionate for horses. She enthusiastically imparts her knowledge to students and horses alike, and is intent on seeing human/equine partnerships succeed. Her teaching and training style reflect her belief that a strong educational foundation is imperative to success in the show ring.

Danielle smith

Danielle was born and raised in Santa Barbara and was involved with horses early in life, serving as an active junior member of the Santa Barbara County Riding Club. During her time as a junior she competed on the West Coast and earned many championships in hunters, jumpers, and equitation on the “AA” rated circuit with trainers Martha Miller and later Samantha Imperato. After her junior career she competed in IHSA and was a working student for Judy Hill Nelson in Aspen, Colorado while earning her BS in Finance and Real Estate at the University of Colorado at Boulder. After college Danielle enjoyed a successful amateur career in Northern California after moving to the Bay Area in 2009 and later worked as assistant for a hunter jumper barn in the East Bay.

Danielle enjoys teaching and watching her students’ skills develop. She believes in positive teaching and incorporating discipline and horsemanship into equestrian education. She is passionate about bringing out the best in both horse and rider and actively continues her own study of both the sport and horses.
